Our Story

How did Fornace49 begin?

It’s 1949, and 12-year-old Basilio sets out at 5 in the morning, first taking the trolleybus and then the coal-powered vaporetto to finally reach the island of Murano. There, he encounters the fire, the furnace, and the workshop. Work begins at 7, and Basilio lets his art, his hands, and the fire come together to create, through their dance, unique and precious glass objects. Stem, leaf, rose, carnation… these flowers adorn chandeliers that, with their transparency, colors, and shapes, will illuminate and decorate spaces.

Basilio a Murano ha appreso tutte le tecniche della tradizione veneziana e i segreti dei grandi Maestri Vetrai, così decide di portare la sua arte anche in terraferma. Nel 1964 apre la sua fornace, sul terreno a fianco a casa. Ora è libero di seguire le sue ispirazioni, creando lampadari in vetro di Murano ogni volta nuovi e diversi. Col tempo le sue opere, sempre più apprezzate, cominciano ad attraversare stati, mari e oceani, arrivando lontano. Da qui prende le mosse Fornace49, con l’intento di portare i suoi lampadari in vetro di Murano in case, palazzi, uffici, negozi, alberghi e ristoranti di tutto il mondo, ricreando magicamente lo splendore e il fasto delle antiche dimore veneziane.
